Scheduled to appear on the UK’s QVC, the home shopping channel, to promote my own book, as usual I had a little snoop round the dressing rooms to see if anyone I knew was around. (It happens.) On a dressing room door was the name ‘Martha Stewart’. I figured there was no way it was Martha herself. But looking up at the monitor in my dressing room, there was Martha, 3,000 miles from home, extolling the virtues of her signature stationery and storage range. I’m not sure if she’d figured it out with the help of a microscope, a telescope or a wide-angle lens (my money’s on that). But Martha had grasped that nothing was going to get this launch off to a flying start than tearing herself away from one of her magazine-worthy homes for a weekend, crossing the Atlantic and going in front of QVC’s cameras.
