Indeed, sometimes the act reveals more than any deep and meaningful chat ever could, and there were times when I would actually go along to my former boyfriends&rsquo; gigs simply in order to find out what was going on in our relationship. Of course, it was embarrassing sometimes, and certainly I&rsquo;d have preferred to find out in private that things weren&rsquo;t going so well for us, but if it has to happen at a grungy stand-up club in Liverpool whilst surrounded by 300 guffawing strangers, then I guess it&rsquo;s better than nothing &ndash; at least you know where you stand.
